Project folder structure

Reference

Folders are organized by type of media, not by stage. Find a file's home — search it, or pick what it is.

Type in the filter above to jump to a folder, or activate any folder to reveal what goes inside.

Approved deliverables — every format and resolution you hand off (16:9, vertical, square, social). A subtitle .srt sits next to the master it belongs to.

Review cuts sent for feedback before sign-off (v1, v2, fine cut).

Internal-only renders → 05_Intermediates

Your Resolve project backup (.drp). The edit lives here.

Interchange files: DRT, XML, AAF, EDL.

Color LUTs (.cube) used in the grade.

No media — footage and audio live in 02_Footage / 03_Audio

Footage your team shot. Each card/camera in its own folder; proxies inside that segment's Proxy.

Licensed stock clips.

AI-generated video.

Video the client or a third party gave you.

Shot by your team → 01_Originals. Otherwise Stock / AI / Provided.
Never rename 01_Originals — Resolve links by path.

Sound recorded on set / location: lav, boom, scratch.

Voiceover and narration.

Sound effects, ambience and Foley.

Music tracks (licensed or provided).

Externally cleaned audio you keep and edit with (Adobe Podcast, noise reduction). A kept source — the edit relinks to it, so never delete.

Processed/cleaned audio is a kept source, not an Intermediate (the edit depends on it) → 05_Processed. 01_Production stays raw originals.

Raw ingredients: logos, fonts, brand kits, reference images.

Graphics you created or exported (titles, lower-thirds, end cards).

Photos and frame grabs — including client or photographer photos.

Client / photographer photos → 03_Stills
Mood / reference images → 01_Resources
Transcodes, comps / VFX, pulls, sizzle drafts — anything you can re-create from the project. Keep versions (v1, v2…).
If the edit relinks to it and you can't re-create it, it's a source, not an Intermediate (e.g. cleaned audio → 03_Audio/05_Processed).
Don't leave empty folders.
Brief, script, transcripts, contracts, Frame.io review EDLs (comment markers).
  • No spaces. Use _. Version with _v01, _v02, _v03 — that's how we track revisions.
